On December 18, 2021, the Official State Gazette (BOE) published the agreement signed between the Council of Transparency and Good Governance and the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands for the attribution of the exercise of jurisdiction for the resolution of the claims provided for in article 24 of Law 19/2013, of December 9, on Transparency, Access to Public Information.
This competence covers the claims that are submitted against the resolutions issued by the Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, the Island Councils and the Municipalities within its territorial scope, as well as the public sector entities linked or dependent on these administrations, with respect to the requests for the right of access to public information raised by citizens before them. Until this signing, the claims were the responsibility of the Commission for Claims of Access to Public Information.
With the signing of this agreement, Illes Balears joins the other seven communities and autonomous cities whose claims this Council is aware of: Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Ceuta, Extremadura, La Rioja and Melilla. In this regard, it should be recalled that until November 2, 2021, the Council also processed the claims corresponding to the Community of Madrid and the other administrations and entities of that territory. Among these eight communities and autonomous cities, there is a population of 6,396,573 inhabitants, 13.52% of the total Spanish population, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics as of July 1, 2021.
