In 2025, the Council of Transparency and Good Governance (CTBG), registered a new record in the entry of claims presented by citizens in defense of their right of access to public information, with a total of 2,767, the highest figure recorded to date and which represents a strong increase of 40.2% compared to the previous year.

The course “The future of transparency in Spain in the face of the challenges of artificial intelligence”, organized by the Council of Transparency and Good Governance (CTBG) and the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) between 1 and 3 July within the framework of the UIMP Summer Activities in Santander, brought together more than 20 experts from different fields who, during three intense days, generated a space for debate and reflection on the challenges, but also the opportunities, that new technologies represent for public transparency and to achieve a more open administration.

The president of the Council for Transparency and Good Governance, Concepción Campos Acuña, met yesterday with the chairperson-director of the National Mint and Real Mint Factory Casa de la Moneda (FNMT-RCM) Isabel Valldecabres Ortiz, at the headquarters of this institution in order to share experiences, analyze common challenges and explore ways of cooperation aimed at improving transparency systems and bringing public information closer to the citizens in a more useful, accessible and innovative way.

The Supreme Court, in two judgments delivered on 10 and 18 June (SSTS 727/2026 and SSTS 769/2026), confirmed the position held by the Council of Transparency and Good Government in favour of access to public information regarding the productivity of personnel in the service of public administrations by trade union representatives.

Next Wednesday, July 1, the Council of Transparency and Good Governance (CTBG) and the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) open a space in the Palacio de la Magdalena de Santander to debate the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence represents for public transparency. The meeting, which will be attended by first-level experts from different fields, will last until 3 July and is part of the UIMP’s Summer Activities 2026.

The Council of Transparency and Good Governance (CTBG) has published today seven interpretative criteria on the rules of application of the causes of non-admission of requests for access to public information established in article 18 of Law 19/2013, of 9 December, on transparency, access to public information and good governance (LTAIBG).

Available for consultation on the resolutions issued by the Council in May in 106 complaints procedures against the General State Administration and the state public sector.

The Council has today received a delegation from the Administration of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which has been able to learn first-hand about the configuration, functions and activity of the independent authority, especially with regard to the evaluation of compliance with active publicity obligations and the defence of the right of access to public information.

“Transparency has a triple effect against corruption: deterrent, detection and transformative. It is one of the most effective instruments for preventing corruption before it occurs. It is not a reactive measure; it is a preventive tool”, said yesterday the President of the Council in her speech within the framework of the conference “The fight against corruption in France and Spain”.

Available for consultation the 85 resolutions issued by the Council in May in complaint procedures against the autonomous and local administrations of those autonomous communities with which we have agreement.
