The meeting was attended, by DIGEIG, among others, the head of the Directorate of Transparency and Open Government, Elizabet Díaz, and the Legal Director, Krishna Guzman, who were able to know at first hand the normative scenario and institutional architecture of transparency and the right of access to public information in Spain, as well as the configuration of the Council as an Independent Administrative Authority. The Council team detailed the institution’s work on resolving complaints about access to public information; monitoring compliance with the obligations of active publicity by obligated parties; and promoting public transparency.
At the meeting was also the director of the International Relations division of the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), Joaquín Pérez Catalán, since the visit is part of the collaboration program developed by the Agency with the members of the Ibero-American Data Protection Network, of which DIGEIG is part.
La DIGEIG It is the governing body in matters of ethics, transparency, open government, the fight against corruption, conflict of interest and free access to information in the governmental administrative sphere, and is subordinate to the Ministry of the Presidency of the Republic. He currently chairs the Transparency and Access to Information Network, created in 2011 as a joint initiative between guarantor agencies and public bodies in Latin America, with the aim of strengthening the right of access to public information, promoting active transparency and consolidating accountability as a transversal axis of government management. The CTGB has been integrated into this network since 2015.
