This practical and technical meeting, organized on this occasion by the Estonian Data Protection and Access to Information Authority (Data Protection Inspectorate), is part of the activities of the European Network for Transparency and Right to Information (ENTRI), established in 2025 and whose Executive Committee is part of the Council for Transparency and Good Governance (CTBG).
On the part of the Council, the Deputy Director General of Transparency and Good Governance participated, Gonzalo Gómez de Villalobosand the Secretary-General, Isabel Lombardero Lasartewhich gave a practical session on how to reconcile the right of access to information with the protection of personal data, in which they shared with their European colleagues outstanding Council resolutions on this matter.
The first day of the Workshop focused on the reuse of public sector information, including the legal framework, the relationship between open data and data protection, and real examples of the use of public information.
The second focused on the exercise of the right of access to public information and its compatibility with the General Data Protection Regulation. The participants shared experiences and practical knowledge on how they guarantee the right of access in their respective countries, while at the same time meeting the requirements of personal data protection.
These practical workshops, which bring together councils, commissioners and transparency bodies from different European states, are held on an annual basis. The meetings strengthen cooperation at European level and shared learning on good practices, contributing to improving work in defence of access to information and public transparency. The CTBG organized the 2024 workshop in Madrid.
