Today, the President of the Council of Transparency and Good Government, José Luis Rodríguez Álvarez, has held a meeting with Francisco Javier Acuña Llamas, Commissioner of the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) of Mexico.
INAI is the institution similar to the Council in Mexico, which, in addition to its powers as guarantor of transparency and access to public information, also acts as supervisory authority for compliance with personal data protection regulations. It is a body at the federal level, which in addition to its activity in the internal order, has a very large international presence, currently holding the Presidency of the Latin American Network of Transparency and Access to Information Authorities (RTA) and the Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC), Network of worldwide transparency guaranteeing bodies.
The objective of the bilateral meeting of the Transparency Council and INAI has been to exchange information and experiences on issues of common interest and, especially, to explore possible ways to intensify cooperation between the two institutions, which both the Council and the Institute consider to be a fundamental strategic element for the effective fulfilment of their functions and for the advancement of the culture of transparency and accountability, both in Mexico and in Spain and internationally.
